Grammy's Pecan Crescent Cookies

Every Christmas since we can remember our grandmother has brought the same royal blue cookie tin to our house on Christmas Eve. The tin houses a collection of cookies, but THESE are the BEST, and are always the first to disappear. The powdered sugar coating melts in your mouth and the cookie is buttery and nutty.

If you have a holiday party or cookie swap to attend, or just need something extra for Christmas Day, this cookie is it!

Preheat oven to 300.

1/2 pound unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon good vanilla
1 cup pecans
powdered sugar for coating

Pulse the pecans in a food processor (or chop by hand). Using a mixer or food processor, cream the butter. Add sugar, flour, vanilla, and chopped pecans. Mix together.

Form the dough into small (or in my case extra-large) crescent shapes. The cookies should be about 1" long. Roll the crescents in powdered sugar and place on an un-greased cookie sheet.
Bake for 30-40 minutes. Once the cookies are out of the oven and cooled, roll a second time in powdered sugar!
