Agave Nectar Margaritas

After consuming TWO Agave Nectar Margaritas at Blue Ginger for the bargain price of $15 each (spending another $15 on a second margarita sounds like a better idea after the first one starts to work its magic) I decided to try to make these at home.

Margarita "mix" makes me cringe. Not only is it filled with god-knows-what unnaturalness that makes it that neon green color, it's also about as caloric as a stick of butter and as sugary as a melted lolly pop. The only ingredients in this margarita are: silver tequila, agave nectar, fresh lime juice, grapefruit juice, and salt for the rim.

It's rather fitting to use Agave Nectar to sweeten a margarita since tequila is made from agave. Don't be fooled, although it looks like a cactus, the agave plant is actually a relative of the lily. Some vegans use agave nectar instead of honey because they are crazy. I, for one, don't care about eating bee barf - but agave nectar is great because it's a natural sweetener and has a more neutral taste than honey. It's delicious in these margaritas!

3 parts silver tequila
1 part agave nectar
1 part grapefruit juice
1 part fresh lime juice

Put everything into a shaker with ice and channel Tom Cruise for a minute.
Serve over ice in glasses with salted rims.
Buen provecho.

  1. hi ladies!

we had these for a dinner party Friday and just had to say - DELISH! they are so fresh and yummy hangover! thanks for the recipe I'll never use store bought mix again!

  2. Awesome indeed. I switched to agave nectar too, away from the mix...It's also healthier, with only 16g carbs per tbsp and a low glycemic index. And if you really miss the taste of orange, you can always add triple-sec, orange extract, or OJ

  3. Blue Agave and stevia. Diabetes and heftiness insights around the globe are amazingly high. The sustenance exchange has been demonstrating more advantageous nourishments as a pattern that begun once again 10 years back. Wholesale Agave
